Carbon Footprint

We are working with a local company called TEAM, using part-funding from the Carbon Trust, which has calculated our carbon emissions and identified areas where we can reduce it. Some of these actions have already been implemented, for example we have increased the temperature in our data centre, hence reducing the amount of air conditioning needed.

In addition, we have set up an internal team to look at the recommendations and put the plans into action. The team will include an environmental champion from each area of head office and we will be measuring our carbon outputs to ensure any implemented programmes are having a positive effect. Where we build new stores, they include energy saving devices such as light detectors. In addition, the new commissary we are building in Milton Keynes is being built to the BREEAM (Buildings Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Excellent rating – the highest attainable standard.

Recycling

We aim to keep all our food waste to a minimum and constantly review our packaging to see where potential improvements can be made. Our boxes are already made from 80% recycled cardboard and are 100% recyclable. If you want to learn more about recycling, visit www.recycle-more.co.uk
